After years as a cancer researcher, my experience as a breast cancer patient is teaching me an entirely new perspective. This section is about what I am learning about the cancer experience. While this section focuses on my personal experience, it is intended to be more broad than one type of cancer experience and to provide information for people who want to learn about cancer from a patient perspective. My goal is to provide information without the nonspecific, scary details and complications highlighted in much of my own reading. Overall personal wellness is the goal of the cancer area of this blog. It should not replace professional medical advice.
Ideas for study techniques that work are here! I have worked in education for over 25 years and know that it's worth it to think about designing the best study time for your mind. Methods that keep you on task and focused will improve your learning. This section also discusses how we learn and how to handle difficult instructors. Study smarter, not harder!
Need to know more about biology, anatomy or physiology? Introductions with loads of analogies are here. Many blog posts include links to sound files so you can listen when you are too busy to read.
Here is science on the move! Too busy to sit and study? Try listening to short introductions of science topics while you exercise, cook dinner or drive to class. For studying that actually fits into your schedule try In the Pinna podcasts!
The goal of this website is to build branches of information and create associations to help anatomy, physiology and biology students understand and retain foreign and complex science information. Here we will draw on familiar experiences and use common vocabulary to build a knowledge tree that will eventually support involved concepts. Simple short stories, antidotes and logical informational groupings will increase in complexity over time as we build a solid knowledge base. Short blog entries or sound bites will gradually immerse students into the language and thinking of science. Short blog posts are bite sized pieces to make biology easy to digest. Podcasts or audio files convert the same messages to a format that can review material even when you can’t look at a text book. By reading or listening to just one short topic at a time, students can build a strong scientific foundation.
I've helped many students find methods that work for them! Blog posts about learning provide insight into methods successful students use to learn new and complicated information. Posts here also suggest how to best structure your study time.
You'll be the first to know about new blog posts and podcasts!
